I assume was an attempt to help make the character tougher but did not need to be there at all. Rape is not usually a touchy subject for me, I don't enjoy reading about it but I also am not someone that needs to be warned about that subject matter being in something. This however bothered me as this book is completely advertised as a YOUNG ADULT book. No teenager should be reading that.
