The final huge flaw in this book is the flat-out dumping of the little girl's story-line. About half-way through the novel, her perspective vanishes--we no longer know what has happened to her. Her fate is eventually revealed through the journalist's investigations, but the girl's next actions and behaviors are only speculated about, third hand. The psychological effect which her ordeal had on her is utterly unknown to us. Meanwhile, we're expected to endure the journalist's unraveling personal life, which has no possible comparison to the horrors of the Holocaust.
