The preface--a gracious and funny homage to his family and only a slight introduction to the works--was written circa 1968 when this collection appeared and gives us the familiar Vonnegut irreverence. In it, Vonnegut seems slightly embarrassed and ashamed about some of the early pieces therein, but he needn't have been. Actually, in a published grading of his own works (done years later), Vonnegut gave this collection a B- when stacked against the entirety of his ouevre.
